Spring fling Race

2023 Spring Fling Race and Dock Party.

After several postponements due to weather, Lake Palestine Yacht Club held their annual Spring Fling race and dock party. On a challenging very light wind race, six boats competed. Jim Stevens took first place in the shortened race course.

Following the race at Lake Palestine Marina docks, Brent Boyle performed a renaming ceremony on his boat, giving the boat it's new name of Splendiferous.

Afterwards John Springer, aka master grill chef cooked burgers and brats on the grill. Despite the lack of wind, weather was delightful for the event, and several members even spent the night on their boats.

LPYC 2023 Annual Meeting.

Twenty two members gathered for the Lake Palestine Yacht Club annual meeting at Emerald Bay. After enjoying a Mexican buffer, the meeting convened with a call to order by Ben Hooks. Lynn Easley presented the minutes from the last annual meeting. John Springer gave the report on the financial side of things.

Discussion then began on possible events and club activities for the 2023 calendar year. Discussion centered on location for the different possible sailboat races. Other topics were treasure hunts and over night and day flotillas on the lake. Dock parties are also popular events. Also discussed were Christmas boat parades and movie nights. Several comments were from the membership on how the club could improve for 2023 mainly centered around communications of events.

Of course one of the primary functions of the annual meeting is to elect director positions and officers. Ben Hooks and John Springer were unopposed and reelected. Brent Boyle and Peter Pitonak filled the currently vacant positions for their remaining terms. Steve Lowe and Rich Munson will continue as non-voting board advisors.

The board recommend officers of Ashley Tackett for Commodore, Ben Hooks for Vice Commodore, John Springer for Treasurer, and Lynn Easley for Secretary were approved by voice vote with no objections from the members.

After some closing remarks from the new Commodore Ashley Tackett, the meeting was adjourned.

Thanks to all that attended and here is to a great 2023 year!
