The race is named in honor for LPYC's first, Commodore Steve Herber.
It's designed to be a fun race that often includes a challenging course. This year's course started in Saline Bay off the docks from Lake Palestine Marina, threading down the channel towards the main lake, down into Mallard's Bay rounding a buoy and back to the starting line.
Despite the dire forecast for heavy winds, four boats braved the tranquil light winds to compete in the 2020 version of the Steve Herber Annual Turkey Fun Race.
The four skippers and their boats finished in the following order.
1 - Ben Hooks and his Harbor 25
2 - Lynn Easley and his San Juan 24
3 - John Springer and his Morgan 28
4 - Steve Lowe and his Catalina 28
Brenda Herber presented the trophy to Ben Hooks.
Afterwards John Springer cooked up burgers and dogs for the hungry attendee's.
The Springer's also celebrated the 50th birthday of their Morgan 28 with a birthday cake for the boat.
